How to print a large PDF or image on multiple pages

Four steps from a big drawing to a full-size paper template you can trust.

  1. Open your file

Drop in a PDF, PNG, JPG or SVG – a CAD export, a scanned plan, a photo or a sewing pattern.

  2. Set the true scale

PDFs open at their real size. For photos and screenshots, click two points and type the real distance between them.

  3. Choose your paper

Pick A4 or Letter. TrueScale Print picks the orientation that uses the fewest sheets and skips blank ones.

  4. Print & assemble

Print at 100%, check the ruler, then trim on the dashed lines and line up the diagonals.

Everything you need for accurate full-size prints

Built for people who cut wood, steel and fabric from paper templates – where a few millimetres matters.

📏

Scale calibration

Mark any known distance on a drawing or photo to scale it precisely – ideal for screenshots and scans with no scale bar.

✳️

Alignment marks

Diagonal lines and an optional square grid run continuously across every sheet so pages line up without guesswork.

✂️

Overlap & trim lines

Choose a glue overlap. Dashed trim lines are printed on both neighbouring sheets in exactly the same place.

🏷️

Sheet labels & assembly guide

Every sheet is labelled (A1, B2…) with arrows to its neighbours, plus an overview page showing the layout.

✅

Ruler & test square

A 100 mm / 4 in ruler and a 5 cm / 1 in test square let you confirm your printer kept the scale.

🖨️

Ink saver

Lightens large solid areas while keeping edges crisp, so dark drawings don't drain your cartridges.

🧵

PDF layers & sizes

Turn sewing-pattern size layers on or off, and print every page of a multi-page PDF in one go.

🔄

Crop, rotate & mirror

Print only the part you need, or flip a template for the opposite-hand part.

🔒

Private & vector-sharp

Runs entirely in your browser. PDF plans stay vector, so lines print razor sharp at any size.

Why not just use “Poster” in your PDF reader?

PDF readers can split a page into tiles, but they only print at whatever size the PDF happens to be – and they give you little help putting it back together.

  • Any source, any scale. Photos, screenshots and scans get calibrated from a known dimension.
  • Marks that span sheets. Continuous diagonals reveal even a 1 mm misalignment.
  • Fewer pages. Automatic orientation and blank-sheet skipping save paper and ink.
  • Proof of scale. A ruler and test square on the first sheet tell you the print is right before you cut.

Printing tip

Always print at 100% / Actual size. “Fit to page” or “Shrink oversized pages” quietly scale everything by a few percent. Measure the ruler on the first sheet before printing the rest.

Frequently asked questions

Is TrueScale Print free?

Yes. You can open files, calibrate, tile and print without paying or creating an account.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your web browser. Your plans and patterns never leave your computer, which also makes it fast.

Do you track me?

There are no cookies, accounts or ad trackers. The app counts anonymous events, such as “a PDF was exported on A4”, so we know which features people use. Your files, filenames and measurements are never sent. Like most websites, our hosting keeps standard access logs, including IP addresses, for up to 180 days to understand traffic; they are not shared or sold.

How do I make sure it prints at the right size?

In the print dialog choose 100% or “Actual size”, never “Fit to page”. Then measure the ruler or test square on the first sheet. If it's correct, every sheet is correct.

Can I print a photo or screenshot to scale?

Yes. Open the image, click Calibrate, click two points that are a known distance apart and type the real distance. The whole image is scaled to match. The more distant the two points, the more accurate the result.

Which paper sizes are supported?

A4, US Letter, A3, Legal, Tabloid and A5 for home printers, plus A0–A2 and Arch C–E for copy shops and plotters. Units can be millimetres, centimetres or inches.

Does it work on iPad or phones?

It runs in any modern browser, including iPad and Android tablets. A bigger screen makes calibrating and cropping easier.

How accurate is it?

The PDF it creates is exact. Real-world accuracy depends on your printer, which is typically within about 0.5%. Check the ruler, and for long parts use the diagonal lines to keep sheets square while you assemble.

Ready to print something big?
